Things You Should Be Listening To

I really need to update this more. I mean, I’d like to, but nothing is popping around here right now. Work work work. With Sprinkles. Mustin album. Grammar Club. You know the drill. But that doesn’t mean my friends aren’t putting in work!

Last’s year’s biggest surprise in excellence in my mind was without a doubt Dual Core’s Lost Reality. This year int80 and c64 have done it again with Next Level. Both men have evolved into the hip-hop equivalent of Thanos because they have the world in their hands right now. Tracks like “Letter to c64″ and “For You” give you the updates you need on our boys, while tracks like “Kick Back” and “Alright” let you know that they’re only going to go further. int80 displays that he can work with a concept (see: The Hollow and Here to Help) as well produce some of the best story verses seen not only in nerdcore but in hip-hop in general (see: The Game and Life’s Work). I’m telling you right now that your favorite song is going to be “Painting Pictures.” Assuming you’re not made of stone (a lot of D&D monsters actually follow my blog so I’d hate to assume) this will move it. You can’t even help it. It’s a beautiful story told so well that int80 is less of a writer on this track and more of a director, making c64 the director of photography with his beautiful, soulful music. You’re going to see this girl in your mind’s eye. You’ll see her parents. You’ll almost forget you’re listening to a song. In Florida David and I discovered we’d both been on the train of thought and that it had influenced us, and I can honestly say that not only is he one of the best MCs I’ve ever had the good fortune to experience, he’s also a great guy and he’s become a fast friend. Pick up their album. You won’t regret it. c64 is almost a hidden treasure (I say almost because in the next year you’re going to be seeing him EVERYWHERE) and together Dual Core is the best thing in the nerd scene right now.

int80 and I rocking out with MC Lars’ band including Mike Russo

Speaking on MCs I truly admire and respect but still have a personal relationship with, you guys didn’t forget about Wheelie Cyberman right? The front man of Optimus Rhyme may not be rocking with Grimrock, Stumblebee, or Powerthighs anymore, but don’t think for a second he’s forgotten how to rock a mic. Enter Stenobot and Tron Juan and you have the foundation to Supercommuter. And now we are privileged to have a full new album from my Northwest brothers. While it has a much different backing than Wheelie’s previous team, it still features his trademark flow and wordplay and he puts on a clinic on tongue twisters that will have you running to the lyrics page. Optimus Rhyme was (ok, still is) my favorite band and has been since the very first night I opened for them in 2006, so at first it was difficult for me to accept this new presentation, but by the end of the album it was clear that while this was indeed a whole different kind of beast, it was still powerful. You can cop their album now and while you wait for your CD you can get all the mp3s for immediate satisfaction. You should do that right now. Go on.
If you follow my Twitter than you know I just leaked a track from my upcoming album With Sprinkles called “None of Your Business.” Part of me wants to post it here, but it would be more special if I left it for my Twitter followers (and, by extension, my Facebook friends) so you should follow if you’re interested. Shael Riley says it’s the best song I’ve ever put out and it’s just a demo. Do you really want to be the person who doubts Shael? I wouldn’t.
Oh! And I also made “Table Top” and “You Can Call Me Beef” downloadable on the Rolling Doubles page. Enjoy
That’s all for now. Love you much and look forward to new stuff asap. <3
